CNC 3040, JP-382A - Spindle controlled by PWM

    Hello,
got to work on spindle control of CNC 3040. It runs on MESA 7i92, controller board is JP-382A. Yesterday I made a PWM signal functional by LinuxCNC on the MESA card and displayed it through pin 17 on oscilloscope. Now am thinking about how to connect that to control the spindle. Any ideas ? Most of the threads here had a spindle board JP-1482, which am missing.
    Thx, Krokrs

You could try a PWM to Voltage converter if the spindle motor speed is set by a pot
There are a lot of modules, this is an example

Well yes, but actually no Spindle motor speed is set by pot, but I would like to control it by that PWM too. My fantasy is, that I would have two options how to control the speed of spindle - pot, but also PWM. The main problem is, that spindle is now not responding to control of PC - when i call M3/M4/M5, it doesn´t do anything,

Use the PWM to voltage converter to make an analog signal for the speed. Use a switch to select control by pot or control by PWM.

I have a similar problem. I want a servo drive on my lathe that is controlled by PWM (0..10 V) for speed settings and by step/dir for high resolution position mode. The Lichuan servo driver is capable of doing this.
I want control by cnc (pwm and step/dir) and control by hand (pot). I am going to solve it by using an ESP32 processor, and a few buttons and optocoulers. The ESP will take care of selecting the mode on the servo drive and the input (cnc controller or manual). This will also allow setting the speed using telnet.

    Thanks a lot,
i ordered one, so hopefully it will come tomorrow and i will try to make it work. Gonna report later

I have also ordered 3 for my lathe. Delivery time is 10 to 20 working day's.

    Hello,
so it finally comes. It´s smaller than i expected Discovered, that 5V from the MESA is nto enough to source the convertor, so i will need to find other source.

The card needs a 12V power supply. I should work on a 9V battery as well, only the output will be around 6V.

Most VFD Drives have a 10v /12v output that can be used for PWM to analog converters

Also depending on the VFD Drive you have, some can take and control the speed with the PWM 0- 5v output

I have some idea to use pulse clock from mach to setup a spindle motor speed, a nice chip who is pretty old but still made can do generate three fase and drive mosfets for the high voltage part. The frequentie is then clocked, chip make nice three fases.
    Chip is a CD4035A.

    Hello,
In the PoLabs team, we did a simple upgrade on the CNC lathe, and here is blog post about how we make it.

and also one for Pokeys devices.
