K-flop and kanalog with step direction

    Tom
I have a new project but have no experience with step direction or how it's wired. I have two pictures that show what I have to command the servo drive with and the step direction requirements for 5 volt signals. The drive manual says open collector for 5v step direction. It also says I need 180 ohm resistors. I need to know what the best place to get step direction for 3 servo drives while using kanalog and if possible how to wire the signals and apply power. I do need 3 encoder inputs and 1 dac for the spindle. I am not sure exactly what resistors to purchase. I know 180 ohm but not 1/4w,1/2w etc...

Hopefully these pictures will help. If you need more info I will try to get anything you require.

    Thanks

    Ben

    Hi Ben,

Sorry I thought I answered this...

What might work best of all is to use 3.3V instead of 5V and no resistor at all. Most Optos have like a 1.4V voltage drop so:

    (3.3V-1.4V) / 150 = 12.7ma (which is in their 10-15ma range)

Thank you for the reply Tom.

I hope I have this straight for wiring. The step pin and 3.3 v will be wired to the step pin in the drive. The step not pin will go to ground. The same thing for the direction pin. Does that sound correct?

Also can I use the rj45 connector for the step and direction since I only need 3 encoders?

    Thank you
    Ben

    Hi Ben,

Not really. KFLOP 3.3V wired to the PULS pin on the Drive. KFLOP Step output wired to /PULS

    Same for Direction

    Yes RJ45 should work well.

Thank you again Tom. I had a bad feeling about how things are wired. Glad you corrected me.

Is there anything I need to add to the initiate program to be able to use j5 or will just disconnecting it from kanalog allow For it's use.

    Thank you

    Hi Ben,

Just disconnect from Kanalog. Pins 1 and 2 are Step/Dir Generator #4. So configure the OutputChan0 as 12 to drive it high and low should work best.
