    Backlash with Lovejoy coupling?

I removed the stepper on an older Isel slide unit, and discovered there was a bit of backlash in the Lovejoy coupling. Is this is to be expected, or could the spider have shrunk or gotten compressed?

If it's inherent in the design, thinking to replace with an Oldham coupling. Is there a preferred alternative? It's for a low powered wood router, will use 250 - 350 oz steppers, won't be in a hurry.

I would just replace the spider. They do wear over time. The new ones fit pretty tight.
