Using Microsoft Sidewinder Force Feedback 2 joystick

I am trying to use the joystick for better control over the Logitech gamepad that was previously being used and add feedback to the teach mode. So far the operation seems erratic and even crashes the Kmotion software. Sometimes it is just an error message, read failed auto disconnect, other times it actually dumps the whole program.
Are there parameters that I need to address or drivers I need to load?

    Hi GORDYK,

What software are you running and what are you doing?

As far as I know Force Feedback Joysticks are not supported. That is something I thought might be useful when teaching a Spinner Profile years ago but no one else had any interest.

Interesting, as you recommended this particular joystick in an earlier post.

It does seem to attempt to work but with issues. I'll have to check the version of Kmotion, but OS is Win 10

Re: Using Microsoft Sidewinder Force Feedback 2 joystick

We have tried several different non feedback joysticks and there seems to be a communication conflict with the CNC controller.
What are your thoughts on how the teach mode can be used if no joystick will function?
There must be a configuration that is incorrect.
    Please help!

What do you mean communication conflict?

    Which Joysticks have you tried?

    What software are you running?

    Hi Tom,
    Thanks for the reply.
Occasionally get an error " read failed auto disconnect" which appears to be a loss of USB communication to the control.
We have tried the Microsoft Sidewinder 2, Logitec Extreme 3D pro, and Thrustmaster TCA sidestick.
They all work intermittently with times of causing the connect/disconnect tone from the pc and actually crashing the Dynomotion software sometimes.

    Version is 434

    Thanks

Disconnects are normally caused by noise problems or KFLOP power supply problems causing a reset. If you turn off a KFLOP LED you can tell if KFLOP Reset/Rebooted if the LED comes back on.

Does it ever disconnect without the GamePad connected?

    We recommend this GamePad.

You might try our later software and USB Driver.

Re: Using Microsoft Sidewinder Force Feedback 2 joystick

We have used the wireless Logitec gamepad without any connection issues, but the sensitivity for machine control is not what we were looking for. The little thumb button did not give the operator a good "feel". That's why we started down the path of a feedback joystick, or at least a full sized joystick.
Could it be the usb cable picking up RF noise? Might try shielding it.
Is there a joystick configuration file that would allow modifying the choice of control axis/stick and sensitivity on the gamepad?

    possibly

I think Windows has a Calibration mode. See this article.

KMotionCNC just uses the first Joystick available. If more than 1 there may be some way in Windows to change their order.
