Colchester Tornado 200 Fanuc OT Control - Turret indexing problem

    Machine year: 1996.
When the machine is running for about 2 hours, the turret is mis-indexing like its running off the top of the snail cam. I now have the turret indexing forward and reverse to try and solve the problem. Is there a parameter to slow down turret indexing as the turret appears to be bouncing when pulling back in to lock position?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Hi John !
You are right ! there is a parameter but i don't know wich is.
sorry i do not what you mean :"running off the top of the snail cam"
I have some experince with Duplomatic Turret BSA 200 I would be glad to help you , how your turrets fails:
    Rotaring CW or CCW
Or does it fail on both directions?
    what alarms appears?

Is the turret balanced very well with the weight of the tools???

mine bounces too and sometimes it does not lock in. It is because the turret is unbalanced but we have very few other choices.

    @ cncatj:

The turret fails in both directions. I have a turret specialist coming to factory on Wednesday 18th, will let you know result.

    Thanks for your reply!

    @theemudracer:

Turret is balanced well, but still having problems. It appears to be solenoid or something overheating after a couple of hours, may be a fault with resistors overheating.
Will let you know if the specialist solves the problem, it may be of some use to you.

    Thanks for your time.

This is which type of Turret, Electrical or Hydraulic. Normally in colchester They are using Duplomatis or Statur Electric turrets. I think it is positioning problem Pl. checkup the Position coder Signal. Normally the sequence of the Turret operation is like this

    1) Turret rotate CW or CCW
    2) Position signal from the position coder
    3) Position Locking by solenoid coil
    4) You have to get Clamping signal
    5) Motor Off & locking pin solenoid OFF

Pl. check the above sequence & Explain the problem in detail, Then only we can give Suggestions.

Hi guys, I had a turret specialist (who worked for Colchester and is very familiar with Duplomatic turrets) check the turret. He said the turret itself is okay, but he had encountered this type of problem before and reckons the 110v transformer is overheating. I'm checking this out. Possibly replacing transformer with a bigger one. I've run it with a regular stand-alone fan aimed at the transformer and it worked fine, but when I did the same job today without the fan the machine kept shutting down.

I'll try a few more things and let you know how I get on. Thanks again for your time.

    O.K John !
What i did once on a tornado lathe was:
install a separate 24v Power supply for the turret soleniod brake only

Before this there was a lot of problems with this lathe.

Can you post an inside picture of the machine electrical panel
    Here i have 2 types.

    hi,

In fact when I power up control, there control keyboard keys are not blinking and Hydraulic system is not working.
it's giving some errors for Turret.

the problem is that we can not find why there is no power on control.

    tnx

    O.K I see.

    In my opinion
There are 2 posibble causes :
1- Turret crash Switch its activated
    2- E-stop board is defective
