Mach4 G-Code Loading Problems, TXT vs TAP files

Why does. Mach 4 “Load G code” action now only allows .TAP file type files to be loaded ?.
TXT files are not even shown in MACH4Hobby/GcodeFiles directory.

A G code file is in plain text, so just change the .txt extension to .tap Or Save As .tap file.

    Hi,
on the Control/General tab of the Mach4 Control plugin, near top right allows you to nominate known or recognised Gcode file extensions.
Mach4's default is .tap and .nc. If you wish for Mach4 to recognise .txt files then just add it to the list.

    Yep.
On a couple of occasions I've also quickly written a quick code in windows notepad. Then simply changed the .txt extension to .tap and sent it to the machine.

For the pc illiterate. If you can't see the file extension type you need to:
    Open windows explorer.......
In upper toolbar click 'Tools' and select 'folder options'.....
Click the 'view' tab and uncheck 'Hide extensions for known file types'.......
    Now 'Apply'.

Now you will see the extension type at the end of file names and be able to simply change them as needed.

    Hi,
by far and away the easiest solution is to use feature supplied by Mach4:

You can add .txt files and one I find useful is .wtf files!

Re: Mach4 G-Code Loading Problems, TXT vs TAP files

I have no problem changing the file extension from .txt. to .tap.

However, I did go to Mach4 Control Plugin and added *.txt to the list of accepted file type.
I copied a couple of test files from my old Mach3 archives to the Mach4 Hobby G Code Files, plus an old text file that I changed to a .TAP type.
I then restarted the MACH 4 app and selected LOAD G CODE .....
All of the .TAP files are listed but no .TXT files show up.
I was able to open the renamed .TXT ( TAP ) and run a test sample
Also, tried rebooting the computer, still cannot open the .TXT files.

By the way_ i have several hundred abcd.txt G Code files that I used on Mach 3 for 6 or 7 years, don't want to have to use the file rename thing.

    Hi,
I have just tried it and it works fine.

How did you enter the extra entry to the list?

    I just tried this:

    *.tap;*.nc;*.txt;

Note that the list is ';' delimited and you have to include the '*' wildcard.

When I made the addition then when I open a file dialogue window the availble and displayed files were of types *.tap, *.nc and *.txt. Note also that this is just the
preferred file listing, the drop down allows you to choose all file types ie '*.*'
