Alarms on my Leadwell MCV OP

    Hi guys

So I finally got my Leadwell powered up after 2 and half years sitting around (I think this is the main cause??) and got some errors.
On first power up I had an EMG Alarm (Red LED) also flashing on screen said "not ready".
So I read on this forum try pushing and holding "rest and Delete" during power up. (I probably shouldn't have done that):drowning:

So now the alarm messages are,
    Spindle trouble (Other red LED)
    100 P/S Alarm
417 servo alarm X axis DGTL Param etc. Ill post pics.
I was told ill need to load Parameters back into the machine?????

you lost parameters because the baterries are dead, you need a back up now to load back in and also the diagnostic parameters.

Yes, i have entered all the parameters manually because the comms port isnt working. So that part is done.
Other issue i have i think is the limit switch on Z axis. I think its an over travel issue. I tries to override this with the red button on the side of control panel, MPG, Low X1 and +Z but no go.
So question is, is the limit switch basically a button which gets pressed in on the Z travel slides? If it is a switch it feel solid and stuck inwards.

Yes,is just a switch with 2 wires with a 24v that is cut when switch is pressed, why you do not remove the screws and than just ope it an clean it,will work after this.If you remove the wires ,shhut down the machine as you might touch the 24v wire to the machine side and get a short and a fuse blown

If it is over travel alarm, need to remove the alarm first, then move the Z axis back in range manually.

    yes that all fixed. Thanks
Im trying to find out why i cant get the tool changer to work when i enter the command in MDI. zavateandu seems to think it may be parameters form 300 to 600. And should check.

is not parmeter,it is diagnose that in many cases is related to tool change

    btw,
Make reference on Z AXIS than try to move the z axis to tool change position by typing in:
    G0 G91 G30 Z0
than try again the tool change

I zero'ed all the axis first
    Press MDI
I typed in, G0 [INPUT] G91 [INPUT] G30 [INPUT] Z0 [INPUT] [EOB] M06 [INPUT] T4 [INPUT] [EOB] [START] but no go

I type the code in this screen

"i think is the limit switch on Z axis."
Is there a message when moving Z axis?
Try "P+CAN" keys on power on. This will temporarily disable overtravel so you can re-zero.

Re: Alarms on my Leadwell MCV OP

So I got the Z and X to move but only on screen which is strange, the actual machine axis did not move.
I cleaned out the Z over travel switch and yes it was stuck, its ok now but sill got a Z over travel error on screen.

Re: Alarms on my Leadwell MCV OP

For some reason the relays for the air lines to ATC are not switching. I can manually switch them by pressing the air actuator by hand and the ATC moves so mechanically its ok.
These are the voltages to the relays on the air actuators, I hope you can help me if its correct?

Re: Alarms on my Leadwell MCV OP

    Good news so far.
I was able to move all axis's even "Home" all axis's which is great.
I haven't been able to rotate the spindle or do a tool change, I'm not familiar with the Fanuc system but tool change should be like, M06, T# and spindle rotation, M03, S100 or so. Not sure how to punch it in???
Now the issue I do have is all the functions of the axis movements has to be done with the red over-ride button on the side being pushed in the whole time for some reason??

Re: Alarms on my Leadwell MCV OP

Hi guys, seems success comes in small stages.
I found the carousel motor was very hot, I pulled the carousel motor out to see if it would rotate during tool change command to prove the motor/command is working which it does.
I found the carousel was physically jammed which stopped the tool change and heated the motor. I freed up the carousel and its turning. The motor, which turns it, was very hot and I thought damaged but its ok.
Unfortunately, it’s still not changing tools, basically it turns the carousel and I thought great, but it turns in one direction then the other direction continuously, it’s like it doesn’t know where to stop. Also the tool changer doesn't go down or accross.
I see there is a magnetic sensor next to the carousel motor wheel. I’m thinking should the magnetic sensor and the wheel (Encoder wheel for sensor) should it be in a particular position so it’s timed correctly to the magnetic sensor??

Ok, i got the spindle rotation ok, but no tool change.
The issue i see is the air line which i believe sucks the tool holder up is disconnected. but what i dont understand if its a suction line the compressed air will blow not suck??
    Please explain??

Re: Alarms on my Leadwell MCV OP

    Hi guys.
I must be doing something wrong. I tested the relays which activates to tool changer and all ok.
So the question is while in MDI how do i test tool change? I don't have a program loaded yet.
Some machines just need the tool change command M6 T5 Cycle start.
Others need P for Pot when looking for a pot without tool in it the pot. M6 P5 cycle start. (HAAS) while in MDI i think.
Am i getting this mixed up? Bit lost at the moment why tool changer not working.
I have an old Leadwell MCV OP Fanuc controller
