    Shielded wire shield connection?

    Hi

I use shielded wiring in my homemade router build, but I´m not sure where to connect the shielding?

On SmoothStepper I use DB25 terminals, they have usual GND pins and one marked GND?
On the Drivers side, do I connect the shielding to the ground wire connection?
On VFD- U,V,W,E. Do I connect the shielding to earth?

And yes I know that shielding needs connection on only one side of the wire.
On cnc metal frame I don´t use any ground connections. Every Nema, Spindle, End switch has its own GND by wire. Is this ok?

Shields should go to EARTH, not any DB25 GND pins.

There should be one earth ground point, so route the shields to that point.

There are some recommendations to connect DC voltage wire shields to DC COMMON

But most recommendations are to use EARTH.

Most likely any interference is introduced by AC fields, and even a DC induced spike can be shielded by EARTH.

Would you want your AC induced interference returned to DC COMMON?

These are guidelines, bottom line is what is "demonstrated to work". Keep physical distance between AC and DC wires, Don't route VFD wires near any control wires.

You should have a star point earth GND set up in your enclosure, all grounds including the service earth should be connected to this point.
