Hello, I'm now receiving electric shocks through the usb plug coming from my 3040 machine. Is this a known problem? is there some fix to this?

I first noticed when my computer gave me the shock when it was plugged in, its all still functional and works but the shocking plug is huge concern.

Is the computer earth grounded?
The DC common is usually earth grounded via the mother board securing screws to the case.

Does it shock you with 110/220V every time you touch it? Then the computer needs to be properly grounded.

Does it shock you occasionally with a little spark? Then you need to be grounded - with antistatic shoes, or air humidifier, or any other means to control static electricity.

I think your wall receptacle is wired wrong. If the hot wire is incorrectly wired to the common terminal in your receptacle and the common wire is connected to chassis ground in your computer, then that is your problem. Find a friend that can check your house wiring.

What are you referring to as 'Common' ?

In N.A. you have a live, neutral and earth GND, the N & GND are referenced to each other (made common) in the service panel.
The earth GND is connected to PC enclosure as well as the power supply DC common.

I get shocked through the usb plug from the cnc controller, which will pass that on through the computer if plugged in. Its a laptop on batteries so not plugged in itself.

I checked the outlet with an outlet tester and it seems to be fine.

If the outlet is 100% OK then it would seem your PC case and PS common is not earth grounded?

The laptop is Battery Powered so is isolated, from the main 120v / 240v supply, this will be a machine Grounding problem

Your computer is isolated, so it is nothing to do with that part, but do not use it connected to the computer until it is fixed, or you may fry the computer.

Need to see some photos of the Control / Breakout Board wiring, you could have a Ground loop or some incorrect wiring.
