Question Old Saw Blade Not Conductive Enough?

Does anyone have an idea what old time two man saws are made out of? Our Shop Sabre plasma will not touch off on one. We cleaned the rust off it and wiped it down with mineral spirits. It still wouldn't complete the circuit. So then I got really curious and grabbed a multimeter to see if I could get continuity. Nothing, even if I scraped the probes on the blade. One of my students is trying to cut a design out of it to hang on the wall. It has to be made from some type of spring steel to be that flexible. I am completely baffled. Anyone have an idea?
    Thanks!

Re: Old Saw Blade Not Conductive Enough?

If the blade is steel, it IS conductive. It will be steel.
But the surface may be passivated somehow.
Try a bit of sandpaper or wet&dry.

    Cheers
