    Torque Wrench for collet nut

    Hello brilliant minds!
So I'm fairly new to the cnc world and have been having trouble to a bit slipping. It's a 1/2" shank, 4" inch overall length, 2 fluted straight bit. THe collet is E20 on an 3hp spindle.

I have run across a few threads that suggest just a torque wrench to make sure it's got the proper tension. Any thoughts on this?

It could be a combination of the bit being worn, the collet having some wear but perhaps it's improperly torqued.

I don't have any troubles with a 1/4" collet or bits slipping.

    Running:
    Avid Pro4896
    34 NEMA
    Mach4
    ESS v277.1

    Thanks-
    Richard

A torque wrench might work. Google ''crowfoot wrench'' You can use these with torque wrench.

I just normally use a 12'' Crescent wrench on my ER-20's

Just tighten it more. Use the two wrench method, and squeeze the wrenches together.
I would think that a torque wrench would be difficult to use on a standard spindle. We use one with the tool holders on our ATC spindle, with a fixture that holds the toolholders on a bench. It's very easy to move a 500lb bench when tightening tools.

What Ger said, but also check to make sure that your collet is clean and doesn't have sawdust packed into the expansion joints.

Thanks everyone! Will stick with the two crescent wrenches method. I have a new collect on order -appears the one I'm using has some wear marks that might be causing an issue.

    Cheers,
