    Journeyman 250 X axis noise

Just purchased this mill and have no experience with Tree or Dynapath 40m control. I do have the manuals which are helpful and I’m kind of learning things as I go. I’ve found that when I jog the X axis in fast or rapid mode I’m getting a rather annoying high pitched squeal. I’m concerned it may be due to a dry ball nut. This machine of course has the automatic lube system but I don’t know of any way to confirm if the nut is receiving lube? Any ideas what could be causing the noise and what I can check? I thought it may also be the screw end bearings but haven’t had time to investigate.

The spindle likewise is making a rattle noise occasionally when decelerating. I’m guessing bearings are likely the culprit there.

    Thanks for any insight offered!

    great idea!

It’s running yes, not sure how well yet as I’ve only done simple MDI commands. I bought this mill knowing it would need some TLC but the fact that it’s fault free to begin with is a bonus.

Found the source of the squeak / screech in the X axis. I removed the table shroud for cleaning and inspection and the noise is gone. It must have a non factory bend in it somewhere. TG it wasn’t the screw and bearings.
