    Z MOTION LOCK

Hello, I'm new to Haas. Our previous mill had a Z lock function that allowed us to lock the Z movement while cycling through the program. This was very beneficial as we mainly drill hundreds of holes into plates. Currently, we are using a canned cycle to do the drilling. However, if we run into an issue, we have to start the program from the beginning. On the previous machine, we would lock the Z motion and rapid run through the program until we are at the next desired hole. Is there a way to lock the Z and run rapid through the canned cycle on a Haas? Since it is a canned cycle, if we start from a line it starts at the beginning of the rows. If Z lock is not an option, does anyone know the best way to start in the middle of a canned cycle?

You can enable program restart in the Haas controllers settings, and that will allow you to start anywhere in the program. It works by re-scanning the program, so it picks up your tool offsets, spindle speeds and feeds, etc.

Thanks for the reply. Yes, we understand using the restart function, however, when using a canned cycle the restart function restarts at the line in the code which will be the first hole of the canned cycle.
For example, we have a job with 49 spaces between holes. If something errors on hole 25, we have to cycle through 24 holes to get to hole 25 when using the canned cycle. Do you know if there's a way to start at a specific hole in the canned cycle?

It's been a while since I have used the feature, but I thought for sure I tried it on a drill cycle before, but maybe I remember wrong lol. So if you start it on the XY line of the hole that you want past the drill cycle line it will still start at the first hole in the cycle?

Yes, it will only restart the code line, which in this case restarted the canned cycle. Maybe we need to explore another way instead of using the canned cycle.

After your initial drill cycle line (it would still redrill the first hole) you could place a GOTO and have the operator select whichever line number needed.

    Something like:

GOTO xx (SELECT LINE NUMBER TO START DRILL )

Yes, this is possible, but the position cycle must be replaced by a position macro. This macro must be given an global parameter as a counter for the currently drilled hole.
And possibly a recognition feature, so that the correct macro can be entered.
