Im updateing my Intercact 720 with more modern motors and everything !! No more parameter worries batterie wise etc . I would like to update the spnidle drive motor withn a modern DC motor , the question is can the bearings take it , going from 4000 rpm to 18000 rpm , I dont suppose I will use the 18 grand , I can control this , but 8 to 10 grand would be nice for aluminium .Any thoughts at all would be appreciated thank you .

The only DC motor that would operate at this RPM is either a BLDC or a Universal (Router) style AC/DC motor, your run of the mill ordinary brushed PM DC motors do not operate this high, generally.
If you have AC in order to run the Universal motor, then there is a variable speed drive touted on one of the forums here, the SuperPID controller which gives you feedback control down to 5krpm.

This has the Heidenhain control on it, right?

Thats what I was led to belieive but Ive found a company in europe whoi make such unit , and no Heidenhain unit any more plug in Laptop , job done .No more 1989 computer hightech ! the DC brushless motor has 5.5 kw revs to 18000 , will update when fitted and tried and tested .All the XYZ motors are also DC small and and lot more powerfull . and work really well .Now the spindle motor .

Yes sorry I didnt recognize the abbreviation , Im not a tech guy my friend is doing all the clever stuff ! Im just machining all the race parts for him ! When it runs !

By the way do you know if the spindle bearings can take such high revs ?

AFAIK It is rated at 6krpm, so you may be pushing it, at that high a RPM.
3x rated RPM !!
