    Vibration in Plasma cnc.

retrofitted a 5 x 10 plasma table that was built by fast cut and ran dynatorch software. belt drive machine, was having issues with motors and dynatorch so went with fabcut/flash-cut set up. old motors were servo and new ones are stepper. i'm getting a lot of vibration and 'saw tooth' profile on cuts when X and Y are moving together. have been back and forth with fab-cut but couldn't get it to work better. we slowed down the cuts and helps a bit but something still wrong. someone suggested reducing torque on the motors?

    70VDC POWER SUPPLY

NEMA 23, 454 OZ-IN STEPPER MOTOR WITH XLR
    CONNECTOR AND STRAIN RELIEF

even when i rapid jog machine in x and y the head shakes, which gets me thinking motors have too much torque??

    Re: Vibration in Plasma cnc.

    Hi,
what happens if you move slowly?

It sounds to me like the steppers are exhibiting a mid-band resonance. If they are running in full-step and even sometimes in half-step mode they can get a resonance
    similar to what you describe.

What microstepping regime are you using? Most find the 8, 10 or 16 microsteps per full step is a good compromise between signalling speed and motion smoothness.

slow movement is fine. i'll check out the microstepping if i can find it and see where it's at.
