    Smile with a Dover air Spindle, DMM-1000 drive connections

    Hi everyone,

    i have a Dover air bearing spindle s/n 15205 whose pinouts are a mystery to me. I was told its motor is a brushless servo (I presume DC Brushless). It looks like it has a BEI encoder on the back, date code 9939 but i can't see its entire serial number. The last digits of the BEI encoder serial number look like ????21-568-1.
    The motor plug has 7 pins total.
    The encoder plug has 6.
    It came with a little printed circuit board that reads ECTS Spindle Biasing, Seagate, and i haven't got a clue what that might be for.
    Frankly, i'm lost in space on where to start with this thing. Does anyone have any suggestions on how to figure out what connects to what? Rumor is that this kind of spindle might connect to a controller called a DMM-1000, but i can't find any on-line operator manuals that might clue me in. Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated.
    my humble thanks to all

    Hi DiamondGirl,

    I'm pretty much in the same boat as you with a very similar spindle.
    I contacted Dover/Danaher who tried to help but they were unable to obtain any relevant information for it.

    from their email to me;
    "... after initial research, we've found out that the spindle for which you request information was an obsolete design used as a retro-fit on yet another
    old product"

    Seems they did try to help me without any obligation so I'm grateful nonetheless to Dover.

    Anyway, you can see in the pic that there is a panel at the rear and I'm hoping that I could look at the wiring carefully to figure out at least the encoder and hall sensor pins. It doesn't look critical to the bearing but I do think I will need a very clean environment to open it in. I hope I'm wrong.

    Any Air Bearing specialists out there?

    BTW
    I'm looking for a 4" air bearing block-head. Anyone have one lying around they wish to sell?
