Seeking someone to cut foam plug

    Hello,

I hope this message is appropriate here.

I am looking for someone offering CNC services to cut an automobile body in rigid foam, for the purpose of casting a fiberglass mold.

I can provide a 3D model of the car in a number of formats, including DXL.

I have seen this done on smaller CNC machines where the car body is sliced up in cross sections for cutting, and then assembled afterwards. I am attempting to attach a picture to this post which illustates what I mean, but this is my first post so I'm not sure it will work.
I can be reached at [email protected] by anyone interested in taking on such a project. Feel free to contact me with questions. Put CAR FOAM PLUG in the message header so I don't accidently delete your message as junk
    Thanks

    Hello tonev8.

Sorry but I have a non disclosure agreement with my customer and cannot reveal any photos or discriptions until the customer gives me permission.

I can tell you it is a combination of two different high $$ sports cars with original concept included. It will be a good product when it goes into production. I wish I could tell you more as I think it would in turn bring me more business.

Hijacking this thread but I have pretty much the same question.

Is someone able to cut a nose cone for a University Formula car? It's approximatively 52 inches long 20 inches high and 24 inches in width. Pictures attached. I would prefer people within 3 hours of Southern California since our student team may not be able to afford shipping costs.

If the foam is only for the purpose of making the mold then glassing over it, why don't you just use thin sheet foam to build it? It looks like you have Rhino, so you can make it into a bunch of developeable surfaces then unroll it, print it out full size, transfer it onto the foam. You would have to build a frame to put the skin on but that would be pretty easy.

    CNC Foam plug

    Canyon,

I know we are a long way from SoCal but did you find anyone to cut your foam plug? Depending on the weight of the foam, ground shipping may not be that expensive from Ohio. We have 2 large 5-axis routers that would be perfect for the project.
