I badly need help in tracking down a controller for the 3040 CNCEST 3 axis router machine.
Mine has suddenly developed a strange fault: 3to4 minutes after starting its run the operation stops. The power that drives the machine goes off, but not totally, the spindle keeps running.

Isn’t it just generic power supply? It might go to thermal overload but spindle relay on a different power?
I have one of Chinese boards that gets power from USB and that keeps spindle relay on even the main power supply is off.

Are they quite straight forward to build from scratch?

It might not be the controller. Are you using Mach3 with that, and trying to run a 3D toolpath? The version supplied with Chinese machines is unlicensed, and after 500 lines of code it will suddenly quit. Since the M05 code hasn't been issued, the spindle will keep running. If this is the case, the solution is to purchase a license for Mach3, or substitute another program like LinuxCNC which doesn't require one.

Hi aweby, thanks for the reply but it is a genuine copy of Mach3 and registered to me.

I just feel there must be a way to source the correct controller box and power supply.

These machines are known for their shoddy electronics. If you're ready to give up on them, I've had good luck with the G540 from Geckodrives, along with a 48v 10A toroidal power supply from Antek and a UC100 motion control card (aka adapter) from CNC4PC.

It is not difficult to track the problem. But you have to provide more information and photos - controllers, drivers etc.
