A friend recently bought one of these and we have been trying to get it working ever since.......

I have tried everything I can think of to get it to communicate with a PC and read dozens of posts about people having the same problem.

The most obivious things are:
Different pluggins ( including the one for the later EC500 )
Multiple IP addresses ( always used the Netmask )
Different Ethernet cables
With and without a Router ( removed the IP when testing the router.
Disabled the firewall
Ran Winfdoes Diagnostics. Best clue I got was 'IP address was not configured correctly" No idea why, or how.

Most of the tales of woe were from around 2017, some a little later.

Best I get is 'connected' led and Sent packets, but No recieved traffic from Novusun.

I know the answer already, but here goes:

Before I hurl this thing against a brick wall, Has anything significantly changed that will now allow this to now work properly in 2023?

We are looking at getting a UC300ETH to replace it.

I'm sorry to say but that is about what you can expect from Novosun. You'll get no help from the Mach forum either, Novosun are on the permanently banned list for peddling
pirate copies of Mach.

That is a very reasonable solution. I myself use an Ethernet SmoothStepper ($195USD) and Mach4 and have done for eight years. The ESS will run either Mach3 or Mach4, but Mach4
is light years ahead....if this is a new build then mach4 is recommended.

You want, in fact need, a motion controller that has support. Novosun is not it. There are entirely enough challenges to CNC without the motion control giving you grief.

Yes, I use a ESS and MB3 BOB for cncroom. Very happy with it.
This person is an old, and a newbie pensioner so funds are tight.
He also wants to stay with Mach3 as he has a license for it and is familiar with it.
He is retrofitting a chinese 6040 Mill, so he has his work cut out. I live 4000km away from him so its difficult to help.
I stressed the need for 'support' at the start but funds overrid that, I'm afraid.

Hopefully he will have more luck this time....
