Probe to create a DXF file?

Can a probe be added to an AVID CNC allowing me to jog to positions, following the outline of templates I've created and ultimately create DXF files?

There's a Mach3 wizard that does it, but I don't know if there's anything that can do it in Mach4.

Yes, but why? It's slow and terribly low resolution. You can get a better scan with your cellphone and a few photos.

Are you trying to skip the CAD part? Most modern CAD software will allow you to import a picture to use for point input. You place a ruler in the photo and scale the image using the ruler.

Most probes have a 1/8th inch ball so they can't make fine detail. To get sharp edges you need a very complex digitizer script that can identify edges and probe in the X and Y to define them as just Z axis will always yield less detail or about twice the probing resolution (as kind of a rule of thumb so about a 1/4 inch with most probes).

Then there is the fact you will have to write the scripts yourself if you are in one of the Machs. If you have a ESS then you are fighting with Warp9's idea of a probe no-strike as to Newfangled's probe no-strike.

Hi Rice- Sub is right. take images of the part then import and trace in a CAD system. So much more accurate, faster and cleaner. Peter
