    Bearings for spindle construction

Anyone out there made their own spindle, I'm currently looking into building one for my machine but having trouble with selecting the main bearings, I'm looking for two main bearings ( angular contact ) approx 1" ID, I can get them but all the ones that I find have relativley low rpm ratings (7 to 12 thousand rpm), I want to be able to go up to about 20,000 rpm, any thoughts or insights would be appreciated.

I have had the best luck with KOYO.

There is a very long, expensive story behind this recommendation, but to cut to the chase, KOYO makes (in my experience) the best quality bearing for higher speeds. I use them also in my MX motors for the crankshafts - 15,000 RPM.

As far as type, I assume you know to look at the ABEC# for speed ratings. This sounds like an application for the ABEC#5 or #7 bearings. Don't beat on them to install them - use heat/cold to fit them and keep them spotless....you likely know all of that!

Consistency is a good thing....unless you're consistently an idiot.
