    Hello Hector,

I have used the vee wheel setup for 12 yrs and have been completely happy with it. I would suggest two sites. Bishop/Wisecarver is the manafacturer but he best price I have found is Reid Tools. I'm sorry I don't have the links but a google search should take care of that in .046 sec!

I just got something in the mail from Reid Tool last week saying they were just starting to carry them. Not sure if I still have it (at work), but I'll look Monday.

Although it'll cost you a bit extra, I'd recommend the covers with wipers to keep everything clean and lubricated.

Hector in the spring 2004 catalog all the "straight" Bishop products are listed on page 392. They come in several different sizes so I would not know which cat. # to give you. Notice I said "straight" parts. On page 391 their curvilinear products are listed. I have actually been looking at this appliction to make my router head rotatable......kinda like a poor man's 5th axis!

    Which ones to use?
    1. Shielded
    2. Steel>Sealed
    3. Stainless>Sealed
What's the difference between them and the benefits of each?
And what if I need 102" long rails, the larger size I see with Reid is 73"?

I'd get the sealed steel. You can get 120" direct from BishopWisecarver. Get the undrilled hardened. Only the "V" is hardened, so they are easy to drill yourself.

I can imagine that the predrilled is more expensive, if money is not an issue, is it worth buying it, instead of the undrilled?

I don't think the longer lengths come predrilled.

Have a look at this picture.

I know that what I am about to propose will disgust many engineers, but you can run these bearings along angle iron too.
I have used this method and still get fantastic results. Oh and there is a crowd "Shopbot" who use the same method. Besides skate bearings on black pipe this is a very cheap method for obtaining linear travel. The other advantage is that the angle iron is supported the whole length, unlike the black pipe method.

    Being outside the square !!!

How do the bearings hold up, using them on angle iron?

I can see how the "vee" would be self aligning...nice design. But, running on a vee shaped rail would "spread out" the pressure a bit -- won't this wear a groove into the rollers, after a while?

    Hey Benny,
the railing you used was Dua-L-Vee brand wasn't it? Is that railing pre drilled? Or did you end up using angle iron as track for the whole router?
    Cheers
