Hi,

I never touched a lathe but I would like to play with one. I'm looking for something bellow 2000€. I did a lot of research, while learning a lot about lathes in the same time and this is my conclusion:

1. there a a lot of Chinese lathes (sieg x) with good price but dubious performance. It seems that after a lot of work they can be turned into decent machines.

2. same types from above are rebranded by some companies that do some additional quality check. And are more expensive (Bernardo, Optimum, Paulimot ... )

3. Proxxon: are either to small or too expensive

4. Sherline: very interesting, but small.

5. There are some serious used machines in my area that weight between 1 to 3 tons! But I'm to new to this things to figure out in what shape they are. And also is unclear how I could push one inside my garage...

I'm considering option 2. Here are my favorites:

Same thing with electronics speed control, 260€ more, does it worth?

Another brand but with 100mm chuck instead of 125mm

My dilemma is if Bernardo or Paulimot really are better lathes than the one on point 1, for example this Sieg:
