    How to decifer Ladder Logic???

    I know what some of the symbols are, normally open and closed switchs, coil symbol and so on, but the addresses have me a little confused.

    I believe the "K" addresses are for Keep relays.

    Are the "D" diagnostic bit address's??

    Are the "Y"s physical outputs?

    What are the "R" addresses?

    what are the "F" addresses?

    I just want to learn so I can trouble shoot problems better and so on.

    thanks for you help

    K=keep relays
    C=Counter
    D= Data Table
    F=CNC to PMC (BMI Bus)
    G=PMC to CNC (BMI Bus)
    R=Internal Bit Register
    X=Physical Inputs
    Y=Physical Outputs.
    The CNC and PMC communicate over the Basic machine Interface (BMI).
    These use pre-assigned values to communicate. For example the CNC sends M,S,T commands to the PMC this way.

    The problem is every system uses some unique instructions, although there are many basic ones, In my case, I learned on one particular manufacturers product, once you have one type under your belt, it is an easy step to others.
    Any book you get is going to offer generic style programs, but I believe there are quite a few out there.
    If you intend working with a particular system, I would get the manuf. programming manuals and work with them, but of course you also need a system to practice on.
    If you are just getting into PLC's and do not presently have something to work with, I Believe Automation Direct offer some cheap PLC's and the S/W.
