I assumed that by saying AutoCAD (compared to the other programs in the poll) Inventor is also included. I use both, but I'm really liking Inventor for 3D parts over AutoCAD (wasn't an option in the poll).

Like Thayer, I used Graphite V6 from Ashlar-Vellum for many years and I jump to
Argon V7 for 3D solid drawing, very simple to use and efficient.
TurboCad pro 11.2. It is also full 3D.

Hi Guys,
I trained to an advanced level in AutoCad and thought it was pretty good until I found Solid edge ( solid works) . Far less keys strokes in Solid Edge to achieve the same results. I never use AutoCad anymore.

I am still using AutoCad14 with BobCad 20.5.
Still works so why change.

Silo2. I do 'Artsy stuff'. I haven't been able/had time to figure out blender, silo's just too easy to use!
I use Google Sketchup for some more inanimate stuff like work plans.
Autocad Mechanical at work, Progecad at home, very similar programs.
Solid Edge is a UGS product (makers of I-DEAS and UG), entirely different from Solidworks.
I, too, cut my teeth on A-CAD. I moved on to Solidworks, then I-DEAS (have SEVERAL thousand hours logged). I resisted Pro/E for several years, but have recently seen the light.
I do agree that comparing parametric solid-modelling to a 2-D tool that can be forced to make crude solids is aples-to-oranges.
Just my $0.02
alpha cam V5 at work.sketchup at home, very fun.
Hi all,
i am just a month away from giving 60000 euro in order to purchase a full DELCAM package (one seat)..CAD, CAM, copyCAD for translating from a 3d scanner and an inspection plug in (powerINSPECT) because i 've already bought a big 5 axis CNC machine (25mx8mx4m) with a fanuc controller and i am afraid of breaking something. Does anyone know if i should go for VERICUT and use a CAD/CAM software that supports parametric design (UGS, Pro Engineer, CATIA?) for better results or i could do the job with the (less featured) DELCAM software that has many disadvantages but is a bit more user friendly??? My field is the marine industry, windmills and maybe small aircrafts..Any suggestions?? Please, you can also PM me if anyone has used any of the above mentioned software for complex (but with no extreme details) structures like boats (hulls,decks,parts)..Thank you!

CATIA V5 of course
LOL...how does that stackup with AutoCad...
I use Solidworks, because it is more easier to be used than other CAD

I think Autocad should be off the list because it is scewing the data.
I run Inventor so I voted for other, and I am quite sure other people are doing the same thing.
Started with CADKEY, moved up to Autocad Mechanical , then Inventor (why can't I subtract solids from each other or generate 3D sketches easily?), and never looked back since I started using SolidWorks. It does everything that Inventor promises with the next version.
