I have never used CNCpro but I am running a Tormach with Mach 3 and I am happy with it. Very easy to use, I program mostly with a CAM package except for basic stuff.
I have done a lot of mold cavities with it and had very little problems so far, pretty nice 3-D cavites have turned out really well.
Live free or die
Mach 3 is used by many out there. Several customers of ours use Mach 3 and I here absolutely no complaints.
Most definately give it a try!
The demo is untimed, free and good for 1000 lines of code. You can control up to 6 axes and it's fully configurable, including screens to do pretty much anything you can think of. Support is great via two online forums.
And if you like it, it only costs $159 to liscense, good for multiple machines.
Mach 3 is the one you want, development on Mach 2 ended some time ago.
I use it on my mill and lathe
