BTR for Okuma OSP5000L (green screen)

I posted a thread in the Okuma machine forum about trying to get an old (early 80s) LC-20 to communicate through RS232.
So far it's not working. An Okuma tech (from Gossiger) was able to get a program from the machine to go to the PC but not the other direction. He warned that even once we do get it to communicate there is a very high likelihood of losing characters...can't have that. This machine will be running a large variety of parts...lots of program transfers.

So...question is...has anyone had luck with tape emulators for this control? BTRs are new to me...jsut found out about them yesterday through internet searching.
Any info on companies that do this, where I can get them, installation, etc...?

Any help on this subject is appreciated.

There is a small group of the 5000 line that requires a very special, abnormal pinout on the serial port. There is no way knowing until a professional who knows about this little quirk gets on the machine and tinkers with it.

As far as BTR's, I have worked with several of them. Even as far back as OSP-3000 controls. If that is what you would rather do, they are not cheap.

What part of the country are you in?
