Oops grammar error. The YCM is cheaper than the Haas.
The philosophy is, run the chit outta it for 3 years and by then the technology will have advanced so much that it is worth it to throw it away and buy another.Nothing wrong with that and I cover all of SoCal from Paso Robles down to Mexi and there are several THOUSAND shops making tons of money that prolly.
In my experience, Okuma for turning, Mori Seiki for VMC
Haas, Fadel, Mazak I have locally, they're cool. Crash it, now lets really talk about whats happening.
Reset, move away from the problem, go again. Try that with a Fadel. aaah, NO!
DanSinOhio "I won't even tell anyone what my tolerances are. It would be too embarrassing." OK, that's funny! Been there.
edit: The cost. The tooling. The "gear up". All considerations, the cost.
second edit: I have a mitsubishi lathe, RUN AWAY! RUN AWAY!
MORI SEIKI!
It costs, box ways, absolute pulse coders, BT drive pins, ceramic spindle, induction head motor, I can be out around 10.000 RPM's in a second and a half. It's scary!
The cost, its all that matters. Be careful, stay in budget.
Always the Okuma

Doosan has really stepped up over the last few years.
Had I been able to find one...I would have bought a Okuma. Lathe, not mill.
Interesting turn of events since this thread started 9 years ago!
As I was primarily Mori, then Okuma for turning. For basic mills and lathes now, I'm Okuma. Mori imo has gone down the white swirly hole on a lot of the machines, and service is non existent. Okuma has really stepped up the vmc line.

Hi.
My vote is for Matsuura i'm running a MAM72 from 17 Year.....still in love whit her.
Prefered machine would have to be Susuki GSXR 1000......... If we are talking about CNC then Multicam.
When we first bought a Haas mill everybody told me that was a throw away machine . It is still in great shape 23 years later. We do not beat it up by taking huge cuts in tough steel. We use a leblond makino fnc for heavy cutting.
NOT a Mazak!!!!!!!!! Bought a 530C 3 years ago and it hasn't worked since day one. They got tired of trying to figure out what the problem was, so they just stopped honoring the warranty and support agreement. Clearly no quality assurance going on in their US factory! When we got it, it was wired incorrectly - some of the wires weren't connected to anything, and the door to the machine would not close. The 4th axis wasn't configured at all, so the Mazatrol controls didn't recognize it, and the wiring was either backwards or not connected. (I can't remember which without looking through my huge stack of repair tickets that the technicians write.) Had to replace the spindle because the motor burned out from the few hours the Mazak technicians spent testing their repairs. They sent us a very obviously USED one to replace it. It had duct tape on it holding something together - seriously! The spindle they were replacing wasn't even 6 months old at the time, and the machine had never done a production run. What kind of company sends a used part to replace one of the main parts on a brand new machine that has never worked??? It would take hours to list all of the problems we have experienced with the Mazak 530C. I know their older machines are supposed to be good quality, but anything that has recently come out of the Kentucky factory is junk!!!
I personaly like Okuma.
Mazak and Okuma.

In our factory we have Okumas, Haas, Tos , Fermat (we are in Europe).
Okumas: +accuracy, +reliability, -expensive, -rigid controller (better to use CAM instead)
Haas: + price, -sometimes unexpected service
From my point of experience, i will buy next machine according to good ratio between : Performace 30% and Service 70%.
Service will be huge factor in future, you have nothing off Ferrari if its broken and in the garage...
