Dinosaur skeleton, and other models, DXF files.

Does any one have some dfx or gcode files for a dinosaur skeleton or a bridge or a rocking horse?

If you do and are willing to share them could you please upload them to this thread.

    Thanks

Funny... me and my kid put three dinosaurs together just 3 days ago... we even did the Raptor that you posted...

If you buy a model there is a drawing on the back shoing the all of the parts. You could scan (Or maybe you have a buddy that would) that drawing and retrace it and modify the slots for the material thickness that you are going to machine.

I'm looking for a dxf file of a dinosaur as well. I'm want to build one for a community center that will be opening up in a few months, my boss suggested something special.

I bought one of the small dino wood kits from Harbor Freight for $1.00. I took the line drawing and scanned it in and used Artcam to create a model. Too bad artcam doesn't export as a dxf. I would post it if it did. Took quite a while to clean up the vectors but came out good..
Dug around and found some dino fonts. You just put them in your font folder. Then go into your cad program and add text. select the dino font letter. Read the txt file for the list. Wala you got all the parts. They are designed so that you use the thickness wood of the bit you are cutting. So 1/2 bit would be 1/2 wood. They could use alot of work but should get you going. If anyone cleans them up I would appreaciate you posting the new font or dxf file to the download section so everyone could use it.

Thanks Whiteriver. I can see the "Fonts"

Was there the slots where you put it all together, or did that get lost in the scanning?
Is that what you meant by cleaning them up?

Maybe if you posted the Artcam files someone might have a conversion tool that will make them into dfx files.

Benny, I think I put an iges file of a shark on the downloads page. Have a look when Paul gets it up, ( ) or I'll email it to you if I can find it again.

I was wondering if we could have a specific spot on the forum for trading files like the dinosaur file? It would be great to pick up plans for clocks, dinosaurs, carved wood panels, etc... all from one location. I've seen it on the artcam site, would it be possible to do the same here?

Pat if you look in the downloads section you will see a few items.
It would be great if every one did join in and upload a few things though.

I suppose we can only lead by example.

    A fair question.
I guess it will reappear once the transition to this new forum has been completed.
    It may take some time.

    Skeleton

This subject is one of the major reasons for me to start my CNC hobby. I would be VERY interested if these files would get availlable.

Especially the shark is quite interesting. Even when it would be in 2D, the shark got my attention. But the one with the shark is probably no skeleton. Funny though, when you think of it. Sharks do not leave skeletons behind in nature, due to the fact that they are allmost totally made up of cartlidge (i took a big gamble on this one to spell ) , but hey, i wont bother you with the details.

By the way, on an open air show of the Royal Dutch Airforce i ran into a few Apache helicopters and tanks, all pressed out of balsawood.

The possibilities are endless, but for now, let's stick to skeletons !

I'll follow this one with special interest!

I just got back from the Barnes & Noble Booksellers. In the magazine section - "Scrollsaw" - or some such title - had a 2 page layout to copy and cut out. Think it was a T-rex. Sorry - didn't have the cash on hand to get the mag - but maybe someone will find a similar file.
    Cheers - Jim

I just finished scanning the Raptor that is from B.C. bones, just like the picture at the start of this thread. I purchased 4 B.C. Bones kits.

    1) Velociraptor
    2) T-Rex
    3) Stegosaurus
    4) Pterandodon

I have the Raptor in my CAD system and have cleaned it up. I am going to enlarge it by 2.5 times. This will make a dino about 3 feet tall.

Christmas present for my nephew. I will post it when it's ready.
    Thanks

    Smile T-Rex .dxf file

I took the dino font file, picked out the T-Rex letter and converted it directly into a dxf. The slot will appear as a line but as stated before pick your tooling the same as your material thickness and the slots will come out fine.
