Hi All,
I was just wondering if there are any members from Canberra here?
I'm shortly going to be diving into the world of CNC with a Mill and Lathe in my sights.

Hi John_t_h,
I'm from Canberra also, and I was wondering if you have found any CNCers in the area? I'm not a CNCer myself, but I am looking for someone to machine an electric guitar for me that I have designed in Solidworks.
Thanks
Toby
Nope, haven't hooked up with any other CNC'ers as yet. What material do you want the guitar made out of? Is it the whole thing or minus the neck?
It's the body, neck and fretboard of the guitar as three separate parts. I eventually want to make the body and neck out of maple and the fretboard out of ebony, but for now I just want to make them out of some cheap stuff to test out dimensions etc.
Hi john _t_h I live in canberra I'm building a small cnc machine about 60% done.
Would also like to have a lathe
What machine are you building, a router or a mill?
I've ordered a mill and a lathe but no word on a delivery date as yet.
Hi John, I too am in Canberra and am also looking for a small lathe before I begin my first CNC build. See my posts here and here, concerning lathe questions and here and here concerning newbie CNC questions. I hope it's OK to put up links to other forums.
I have already got the steppers and electronics (3 axis and 305 oz steppers) from HobbyCNC (about A$380 landed for the Pro version) and just picked up a 1.7G, Pentium computer & printer for $30. That brings my computer count to 9 (or so).
I am currently working on a deck project and it will still be while before I can start with the CNC project (also looking at 2 months holiday to Africa .. gotta get away from this cold weather!).
I am interested in hearing about what lathe/mills you have looked at and in your CNC build.
Vex, also interesting in hearing about your CNC build.
Regards
Blu
I'm a little lazy so I'm getting a ready made CNC Mill and Lathe.
I'm getting a Syil X4 plus Mill and a C6 lathe

Hi all,
Been CNC'ing here in Canberra for about 12 years. Have a Multicam Designer (1200 x 1200mm) which has been worked fairly hard. Brilliant machine, apart from the limited on-board memory. Reliability plus, having only had to replace a couple of fans, a gantry bearing, and a set of router motor bearings. All available locally.
Mainly work in aluminium (up to 32mm thick), but wood, acrylic, stainless, foam, alupanel and plastics all get a run. Have even done a run of Lithophanes.

Hi all,
I am new to CNC machines but am really excited and want to buy/make one in the future. I am in the process of developing a hardwood skateboard design and would be really keen to prototype one on a CNC machine. Is there anyone in canberra that I can talk to about making a few prototypes? I will of course throw some $$ or beer your way and provide the material. It would also be great to get some hands experience using a CNC machine before I buy/make one. Anyone up to lend a helping hand?
Hi,
There are quite a number of CNCers in Canberra. I'm sure someone will be able to help.
As to the skateboard, I'm in the middle of building an electric one with my son;
Electric Longboard Build
Cheers,
Peter

i have a cnc that i make myself, 300x600 work area would be interested in helping. still has some bug in it
Thanks phomann and bradeyk for your replies. I'm in the process of fine tuning me model in solidworks hope to have it finished soon, and get prototyping. So bradeyk did you build yours from scratch or did you use a kit? when I get me model finished I would be pretty keen to see your machine in action, i've never seen one in person before.
i designed it it solid works, and built it myself

Looks pretty impressive. Im a bit of newbie when it comes to solid works but this is a rough of the skateboard cruiser i'm designing. It;s nothing too fancy, I also made one by hand.
