    Taig coolant tray

I’ve recently acquired a Taig CNC ready mill and lathe.

As I wait for the electronic components, I have made plastic coolant trays for flood or mist coolant. Photos are located in the SteveM photo album.

A few spares were made for evaluation and I am prepared to sell these prototypes, for the cost of the plastic, to Taig mill users in the Toronto area, in exchange for an objective critique.

These may be available for purchase if there is demand.
    Pics are here: http://ph.groups.yahoo.com/group/tai...os/browse/fd60

    Thanks
    Steve

Nice tray but noticed that it looks like if the table is all the way to either side, the coolant would drip over the edges of the tray, no?

The tray is sized to fit inside the box that Taig uses to ship the mills.

Since my mill is not running yet, the drip from the end of the table
did not occur to me. I will have to address this problem while still
keeping the overall size of the tray the same.

Also, what about when actually milling and using fluid, what about spray and everything?

Here is a coolant tray I designed and had made. Interested? I can have it customized for your machine. The unique thing is the upper left and right sides make it easy to run large work, there are windows in each side to make it easy to run longer tubes.

I tried with smaller trays and gave up. The smallest that worked for me is a 24x36" tray. The machine sits above the tray inside of inside of it and I used plastic sheeting to make "shower curtains" that go around the machine and direct coolant into the tray. The tray is tilted at an angle towards the drain.

There is a not very good photo here:

My machine is slightly disassembled at the moment, but when I get it back together I will take better photos.

    Cheap Colant Tray

I did a REALLY cheap coolant tray from scrap melamine (ply or chip board would be fine) with 3" walls on 4 sides. Ply platform about 1 1/2" thick to lold mill. Piece of masonite with cutout for platform mounted inside tray to slope forward (did not have this on first version so coolant just puddled). Cut hole at front for bit of copper pipe (well sealed with caulk) to feed coolant to pvc pipe. Lined the whole thing with 2 layers of kitchen shelf liner, plastic sticky one side.

Spray is collected with clear plastic curtain (sold in fabric stores to protect tablecloths) hanging with shower curtain hooks from plastic electric conduit so it ends up inside the walls of the tray.

Just close the curtain and go.

    Ugly, cheap but works.
