    Fanuc 18T

    Just got a Whacheon Hi-ECO 31A wit the Fanuc 18T control. No book. Can't get the machine to take a program from the computer. We use an old Procom program. I get an alarm, number is 086. Also, the machine has info on using the tool setter, any thoughts appreciated.

    Paul,

    An 086 alarm can be caused by incorrect cable wiring from the CNC to the PC.

    CNC <-----------> PC
    DB25 ----------- DB9
    1 <-- shield
    2 <---------------> 2
    3 <---------------> 3
    7 <---------------> 5
    Pins 4 & 5 are jumpered on the CNC end.
    Pins 6, 8 & 20 are jumpered on the CNC end.

    I use the same set up to load 2 other machines, a Daewoo Puma lathe with a 15T, and a Haas VF3 machinig center. Tried to match all the numbers in the system set up.

    What do you have in Setting - I/O Channel (parameter 20)? It should be 0 or 1 for RS-232. What works on the Haas won't necessarily work on the Fanuc, but the 15T cable should work. If your cable is wired with 6-8-20 jumpered then you may have a bad connection internally or a bad comm board.

    can you send programs from CNC to your PC? If it works in one direction and not the other, most likely not the parameter settings.

    Nope, tried that too. I feel like we are just missing something obvious. Is there a parameter setting for communication?
