Using Mach3

Please see a picture of my Home and Limit switches below.

As you can see each axis has two switches are wired in series.

The two switches on each axis, as I understand will act as limits and one of the two will be doing double duty as a Homing switch. This is programmable in Mach3.

OK now the question.
Since both switches of each axis are in series Mach3 must know by the direction of travel which switch is only a Limit and which switch is a Limit and a Home switch. Is this true? If it isn’t then I don’t see how Mach3 could tell which one was being opened in the below brawing?

Mach can't tell which one it is. But you can tell it which way to go when homing. The default method is to home in the + direction, but in the Homing/Limits screen, if you check the "Home Negative" box, it will home towards the - direction.

Most people wire each home switch individually, and connect all the limits together.

So wired the way I have shown it will not drive off of a limit switch when it hits one. Yes or no.

But homing will work wired this way.

Mach does not care that the home and limit switch is shared. When going to home mach will go in the direction set forth. Mach then sees the home switch even though it is also a home switch. It touches the switch and since it is in homing mode it backs back off of it. Now inversly if it hits a limit switch in operation Mach will just trip a fault and you will have to jog off of the switch. So to wrap it up, mach will realize if it is a home or limit by what mode you have it in.

Your wiring scheme will also work for CNCpro. In MACh3, goto the homing/limits tab. The fist column says reversed, that tells MACH3 which direction is the home switch on that axis.

Phil, I think that actually changes the motors direction. You want Home Negative, which I mentioned above.
