My program only detect the COLOR CHANGE and not the color as the COLOR information are not embedded in DST format...

Khalid, I didn´t know that. I thought the color information is in the DST file, so now i´m going to make a macro for Mach3 with a external microprocesor(ATMEGA) to automatize the color change.

Thanks a lot for your support. I´m very grateful.

    Re: DIY- CNC Embroidery Machine

I am late to all this. So is this a question of what colour thread is loaded when the machine is turned on or rather what colour is loaded when G code is replaced/updated without "homing" the machine?
I am thinking that a header macro on the new gcode to do homing rather than an offset (from current thread to new thread colour) could be easier.
That said positive feedback on the position of the A axis would also be reassuring before calling the needle movement.

As I said I know very little about this. Just me thinking out a loud.

    Regards to all

    Re: DIY- CNC Embroidery Machine

It is logical to assume that color thread should replace tool head or mill head.

On a machine that has an automated tool changer, each tool is assigned a specific
location in the machines tool bin and is always maintained in that location. When it is
time for a different tool, I believe an M code command is issued and instructs the machine
to first unload the current tool head, and then load the new tool.

While on an embroidery machine, there is technically a single tool head (the needle),
each thread color could be specified in the tool bin the same way that different mill
heads or tool heads are specified on a machine with an automated tool changer.

By taking this approach, you are using already created specifications and can
specify a default location for each thread color as well as specify the default
location for the A - Axis enabling machines to be built according to those specifications
and reducing the complexity of building a machine.

The one thing you are not likely to encounter changing thread colors that is encountered
when changing tool heads or mill heads is the possibility of needing to re-zero the z-axis
    to the material.

You could go a step further by implementing multiple thread bins each bin having
a different needle and thread size that would allow an operator to create embroideries
that a commercial machine may not be able to do.

    Just some thoughts!

What's up with the links that are added to my post?
In the previous post the word tool has been changed to a link to ebay!
Is this a problem with my browser?

I would like to say how great it is that you and the whole group made such a great progress with both generator and embroidery machines. I stumble upon this thread a couple of days ago and I was really pleasantly surprised.
We exchanged a couple of messages back in 2010 (long, long time ago). In the mean time I managed to made some kind of embroidery machine (special embroidery machine with small working area 20x30mm for some special purpose) but I stopped with that when I could not get my machine work properly. What happened: I could not synchronize frame movement with needle movement properly, so after months of work I just stopped. Now I see that you have new version of your software that I plan to try by the end of this month. I will surely post my progres as soon as I found some time.

I would like to know how everything went with Arduino set? You said that you would use this set instead of Mach3 and PC.
Can you answer me following: since in Mach3 you need to set up everything about x, y and z motors, how would you do that using Arduino instead and not PC and Mach3?
I am still new when it comes to Arduino part.

Anyhow, one more time, it really warms my heart to see how this topic is still alive.

    Waiting for your answer.

    With best regards,
    Zoran

No "tool" problems from my browser (firefox)
And just to follow on .. thread cutting. Is this the B axis or a needle reversal and a one-way bearing clutch??

    Re: DIY- CNC Embroidery Machine

Hi Khalid, I am seriously thinking of adding an embroidery machine to my project list, but first a couple of quick questions...

Has anybody got a machine up and running yet ? I am very lazy and if there is a working design I can copy all the better, haha.

Am I correct in thinking that your software creates the G code only, to run on Mach or Linuxcnc or whatever ?

I would assume the XY frame holding the material needs to stop for the time the needle is through the fabric, what addresses this in g-code? I am thinking an encoder on the hand wheel thingy on the end of the machine, so the XY moves to position, wheel turns through the "needle in the fabric zone" then once the needle is clear the XY moves to the next position before the needle is starting to go through the fabric again...then keep this process going.

I have some unused servos, drives and assorted bits and pieces, might be worth having a go at it.

I guess these questions have already been mentioned in this thread somewhere but I did mention I am lazy !! I will start reading through from the start in any case, I am sure it will help me to get a grasp of what is going on.

    Cheers.

    Russell.

    Re: DIY- CNC Embroidery Machine

    Hello Khalid
    Congratulations for your great program.
I have just read all these posts (after translation, I'm null in English!).
I made a embroideri machine with a sewing machine, it looks like Tivoidethuong. I do not use Mach3, but Cnc3Axes v 2.03. The motor of Z is a Nema17 and a revolution (eg, at the top, the descent and the high position) corresponds to a value of Z of 3.4. With 3 or 4, there is a shift after a while. Would it be possible in your program to include the decimals for the Z incrementation?

Thank you for taking your time to answer me.
    cordially
    Philippe

Hello all, I would love to join in on this project, I can design a controller, x, y axis, and digital dezigns, however, I am lost at where to find the software to convert a digitized file to gcode.

is there a way to design a desktop machine using regular sewing machine for the mechanical parts ?

My friend also has an old 50 year old Singer Embroidery machine that he still uses , but they are more complicated to learn ,

hi khalid, I'm from Peru. I have an old embroidery machine in bad condition; I did not get to read all the thread, but I have reviewed some videos on youtube, I want to consult if your project can be useful for me ?. I also found the hubordix video
    in this direction:

I would be grateful for any response
