For designing projects i always use vcarve pro from a company called vectric. This software seams to be made for wood and vcarving... but its really the best software on earth for making signs and frontpanels etc... I'd tested many others but this is very good and cheap compared to the other ones. Ok, its 450€ or so but it really is one of the best buys i ever did.
If you're using an minimal lubricant (MMKS from Steidle for example) the postprocessor may needs some changes. I can send you my postprocessor which works perfectly with my autograv machine if you want.
The cncgraf software is really nice but its not a cad/cam and the machine software from other companies don't have all the functions like a real cad/cam software. For example... if you want to use dxf files from corel draw or autocad... the contour is sometimes "broken" in single parts. This will result in problems when using these files directly in cncgraf. But its the same with other programs. So what I did is... I just make everything in vcarve and send the file over ethernet to the autograv computer. I set the XYZ zero points and hit the start button. Work good all the time.
I bought an autgrav AGIII and its really a nice machine. As good as other machines which are sold for 10.000€. Iam in contact with the guy who makes the software for the machine and the software is getting better and better. Its even better than other programs on the market at the moment. I added a high frequency spindle and a vacuum table to the machine.
