    Laser types used in manufacturing

    Hello.
    Can you knowledgeable people light up the mystery of lasers for the uninitiated one. What type of lasers are used or can be used for manufacturing. What are the popular choices.
    I hear CO2 lasers is very common. What about solid state ones?

    In a nutshell? CO2 is best for organic materials (wood, plastics, etc.), YAG is best for inorganics (i.e., metal). There is always going to be some overlap... for example, CO2 is often used to mark metals by using special dyes.
