    10160 steps to move 1-inch??

    Machinists,
    Mach 3
    Geko drivers
    Keling steppers
    10tpi ballscrews all around.

Tried setting 10000 steps and came up short of moving 1-inch. Is this just a ballpark first setup rule or should it really be 10000? I kept increasing steps till I got 1-inch and they total 10160 on all three axis.

    What could be causing this?

I recently had the ball screw re-ground and re-balled and it's still the same as before, takes 10160 to move an inch.

    Thanks for your help.

Sounds like your ballscrews are metric 5mm per rev. If this is the case then they should be 10160 steps for 1 inch.

I have metric screws (5mm per rev) on my mill and it's set at 10160 steps. I have english ballscrews (5 tpi) on my lathe and it is set to 10000 steps.

    cheers,

    Excellent help, thanks guys....

    Makes sense now.

Guess I gotta go find what's causing my x-axis mistakes...holes are oblong.

Took the table off and checked the ballscrew...looks and feels solid as a rock. Thought my bearings may be loose but they are tight. I think I'll replace them anyway since it's open.

Any other ideas why the x-axis would be so sloppy after puttng on new ballnut and reground screw?

    Regards,

I didn't do the ballscrew rebuild.

I sent it to a local ballscrew repair shop and they did it all for me. They reground and added larger balls.
