    Drip Feed to Yasnac LX3 vis RS232

    To cut a long story short...

    If i can decipher how to hook up a PC to Yasnac LX3 controller i stand to score an old lathe.

    I need pointers on:

    which software to load into the PC so that a link can be established with Yasnac LX3

    any switch settings to enable /configure the rs232 port on LX3

    any other hints so as not to make the lathe an expensive acquisition

    TIA

    Zig

    Do you really need to drip feed to the lathe, or just upload an download programs?

    If you have a CAM system, it should have a comm package built in. If not, try Predator Editor. It has DNC, and backplotting (with solids, if you wish).

    The LX3 has several parameters to set baud rate, stop bits, etc.:
    6002.7=1 (Punches out tape code with ISO code)
    6003.0 & 6003.1, 6003.4 & 6003.5 select the input & output ports
    6026 sets parameters for input
    6027 sets parameters for output

    The cable would be a standard "Fanuc" style cable:

    NC (DB25) <-------------> PC (DB9)

    1 <---- shield ---- (no connection)
    2 <--------------> 2
    3 <--------------> 3
    7 <--------------> 5
    4 & 5 (jumpered on NC side only)
    6, 8, & 20 (jumpered on NC side only)

    Manuals for the LX3 are available online (last I looked).

    Yell if you need more help.

    DCoupar,

    Thanks for your response.

    I had downloaded the manual(s) and gone through the relevant sections oth at home and the shop ( who have paper manuals).

    I did note that certain variables effected varios coms protocols.

    So theoretically I should be able to handle the problem...BUT....

    I have no idea how to access the variables ( #nnnnn ) in order to change their content.

    So any pointers on how to drive the Human Machine Interface would be great.. not having seen it ( the HMI) previously and wishing not to stuff it up and havng to pay for restoration of machine status ( you broke it you bought it) .
