How to remove Spindle for high-low gear replacement?

Due to a jam I lost my low gear on my mini lathe - both high-low gear-wheels need to be replaced (item numbers 14 and 24 here: http://www.littlemachineshop.com/Inf...33684Parts.jpg)

I disassembled the head stock casting - but I don't know how to remove the spindle out of the bearings. Can anyone please advice how to do this?

    Thanks!

Look on Little Machine Shop for mini-lathe kits. They have a metal gear kit that has instructions for removal-replacement of the hi/lo gears. You don't have to buy the kit to get the instructions.

    robotic regards,

    Tom

Hi avh, Go here http://www.arceurotrade.co.uk/projects.aspx. Third article down I believe has step by step guide on replacing bearings and gears. You may have to cut & paste. Hope this helps.

Tom & Mike - Thanks a lot, VERY useful information (good to know there are metal gears!), this helped me disassemble the headstock. Great pictures!

I can also share one more piece of advice I received from Frank Hoose on his site: http://www.mini-lathe.com/Mini_lathe.../Headstock.htm

    Thanks to all!
