hi all,
I need advice on wich way to go. My orginal plan was to go with HobbyCNC's 3 asis with chopper package. I am now thinking of getting 3 of the 144oz/in motors listed in the classifieds, noting they will be around 100oz/in running unipolar. So this leaves the inerface board now. I could still go with the Hobbycnc 3 axis chopper board wich offers micro stepping(still not to sure how that works yet), or I could go with tachus42's 3 axis descrete modular boards on Pminmo's web site, wich would cost less but not have micro stepping. Would it benefit me to pay the extra and get the Hobbycnc board with the microstepping?
And one last question, Hobbycnc is selling Desknc for DOS for $50 with any purchase. For thoes of you who have used it, is it worth it? I had been looking at kcam, Mach1 or 2 and Turbocnc

A lot depends on your budget and how much you can do yourself, and what your aspirations are. If you can do your own PCB's and want the pride of doing it yourself, know or want to know some about how the electronics works, then Tachus42's would be a great solution for you. If you're looking for closer to a turn key solution, then I'd recommend buying.

What about a Xylotex?

While the Xylotex looks nice thats just alittle pricey for me right now, I think i'm going to go with the Hobbycnc board as soldering it together is no problem for me. I may also make one of Tashus's boards as I have already made the silkscreens for the copper etches, how many amps can the modular Unipoler discrete board handle?

If you can't go with the Xylotex, I'd say the Hobby CNC is the next best to go with.

thanks for your help all, I went with the Hobby cnc board. I wanted something to get me up and running with minimal problems. Hope I went the right way.

I hate to say it but I have sold out of those motors. There was a guy on Ebay selling them also. "3 motors for Taig or Sherline". Sorry I don't have the link right now.

Stepper motors from HP LaserJet II's & III's are 100 oz-in and unipolar (can also be wired for bipolar operation). See attached data sheet which includes specs, pictures, motor wiring diagram, etc.
