    problem with inconsistent stepper direction

Hello all.. I am running Mach3 with hobbycnc pro board and Kollmorgen JPT55 Stepper motors. I got the motors spinning in motor tuning and jog mode but in both modes, the stepper will not spin in the direction pressed on the controller with any consistency. Anybody had that problem or know what could cause it? Motor wiring? Software setup? Power? When I ran the driver test in Mach3, the timeline is rather short pulses in groups along a straight line. Would this be considered correct?
    Any help is greatly appreciated.

I'd like to help, but I don't quite understand what you're saying. Are you saying you can get the motors spinning in the motor tuning page, but when you go to the regular main page nothing will spin?

No.. the motors WILL spin in motor tuning AND when jogging, BUT... the motor will spin clockwise and counterclockwise as I press and release the X+ key in the controller. So in otherwords, as I try to jog in X+, the motor MIGHT spin clockwise. I can let off the X+ key and press it again, and this time I may get counterclockwise rotation while the DRO still counts positive.

Does the motor turn at low speeds (30 RPM) or does it just sit there and vibrate? If it vibrates at low speed but runs at high speeds (with an unknown direction), it indicates one motor winding isn't connected to the drive.

Try increasing the pulse width on the motor tuning page.

i had that problem with a pic driver board.
turned out to be a cold solder joint on the power leads, the negative i belive
check your power terminal tight, and wiggle the terminal while watching the solder side for movement(while the board is powered down of course)
