Is that a Rover b2.3 if it is we have the same baby.

What sort of things are you doing, maybe we can exchange files.

I am busy setting up Bobcad to do 3d work on mine, having a few issues with the posy processor, only mina ones though.

i wish! mines a 1994 machine. only handles a max 11k program so its useless for big files. i make pool tables with it. it does what it was designed to do very well, ie route, drill, saw but the memory restriction is a pain in the ass to work around, i have to split files and run them one after the other
im thinking about refitting the axis controls only to mach, using the old controller to do all the other bits, tool change, speed control etc.
the main downfall is it only has 60mm max under the router to vacuum pods so unless you make a u cradle the height is limited.

im designing my own 8by 4ft super fast machine now, running on mach with high powered servo drives and a 2ft z axis.

Are you making the new cnc from ally or what.
If are you cutting the ally on the rover or having it cut elsewhere.

Here what we make here www.jmbfurniture.com, if you want any files just let me know.

Where are you based, i am in South Africa.

il be assembling my "creation" from pallet racking framework which just bolts together with very strong sections. i made a 10ft long double gang press and laminate postformer from it a few years ago, to wrap laminate around a bullnose section. see www.mercuryleisure.co.uk to see what i make.

i have all the servo motors etc here and a nice rack/pinion unit which is 16ft long. im hoping to use belt drive for the y axis and maybe even the z axis.

im designing this to do both routing and plasma cutting so its going to be a multi tasking weirdo a bit like me.

based in the uk, but will be using lots of parts from over the pond.

    Battwell.

I am actually from Farnham in Surrey, moved to SA About 12yrs ago.

I also built my first cnc machine to take a full sheet of 9 x 6 gantry type, don`t use it much these days and thinking about taking off the motors etc and retroing to a metal working lathe or to use the gantry side of the machine and creating a frame work to hold a traditional wood working lathe underneath the gantry. Just hav`nt decided yet which way to go, I also built a wrapping machine to make wrap doors for kitchens and bedroom furniture.

If you need any help with your setup let me know and if i can help i will.

Maybe it is possible and if you are willing, can you supply me with a set of plans of a pool table as my son has been asking for ages if i could build one for him and i do not have any of the correct dimentions, do you use dxf format for the machine.

    Best regards

re pool table making. if only it was that easy.
1: i struggle to draw a matchstick man.
2: my machine has an 11k program limit so cad cam produces programs too big for it

basically all my drawings are on notepaper which i then parametrically program into the machine by hand. (this way i can make all sizes from 1 program just changing a few numbers)

some parts are too wide for my machine so i have to turn them around!

i can send you my code, but your machine may or may not read it. my controller is the old cni 481. yup, pain in the ass floppy powered!

so basically i dont have dfx files i can send.
i can help with dimensions etc.
i will read in some code and paste it to you.

funny enough i have also been designing a lathe attatchment to sit at the end of my rover. its designed with a "u cradle" to fit between 2 sets of pods at the end of the machine, thus allowing enough clearance to turn. mines designed for a max swing of 10" with 18" between centres (enough to turn pool table legs)
the programming is quite simple then using x to position over centre, y for length, z as normal.
im a bit slow getting it finished as im working alone at the moment as cash flow is slow in the uk. so if im not designing im programming, machining, assembling, delivering or doing paperwork. oh, and sometimes i get to sleep too.

Basically the 481 is the xnc500 or xnc1000, which will work on my machine as i have the old programming editor on my machine and also biesseworks.

I suppose all i would need would be the dimentions of the base table and the section of the side ribs and radious of the pocket holes and then i could create the table from there on my own, but if you could scan the notepaper and send me a smaller file of the jpg file that would also surfice.

I hadd`nt thought of using the rover for a lathe as well ???? maybe.

thats a youtube video i posted this week cutting a base which is larger than the width my machine can handle.

the code psted below is my parametric program for making one top rail. if the code works in your machine i can send you other files.

re the lathe idea. i have also designed on the back of a fag packet ! a add on unit for my cheapie clarke wood turning lathe (which is hand turn at the moment)
i decided on a horizontal router setup so the z axis wasnt lifting the weight of the router or saw or maybe normal knife just moving it in or out. with a very simple sliding x carriage to hold it. this way i can just bolt the whole lot to the table behind my existing lathe. i have changed the lathe motor for a parvex servo so i can control speed and syncronise for fluting and spiraling.
thats as far as ive got apart from buying servo motors and drives. as it doesnt need to be super accurate i was going to try 12mm threaded rod as my "ballscrew" for this one as i cant afford to keep splashing out on my weird toys.
if this works ok i will convert my fully automatic hydraulic copy lathe which is always in my way and not being used at the moment.
ive been playing with mach3 and it seems like everything i need for most of my ideas. i just wonder how many i will manage to finish!

I will see if it works this week.

I suppose you use plastic parts for the ball movment, can this be done with wood, if so can you give me some pointers.

    Have you tryed bobcad.

I have started to use it and it is very good for creating programs.

Go to there web page and download version 21 and also go to there support pages and find the post processors for v18 to v21 and click on the biesse url and download the 480 post. Once you have done this is can steer you in the right direction by means of seperate emails with regard to other things i can help you with....

    regards

ive got bobcad. nowhere near as good as alphacam!

    it seems too finiky.
i have rewritten postprocessors for both. (different for 481 controller)

alphacam handles all the drilling and sawing cycles too.

I found that the coding is not in the same format as my old editor program outputs, so when you get the chance the pics would be great, i am off to work away from home until friday night, so i will get back to you then.

Does alphacam come with all the post processors within the cd that you got, as i do not see any on there web site, what version do you have and if there is a biesse post for the xnc1000 can you look for me if it is there.

    cheers

You guys know anyone that might be interested in this ?
I looked at this router on Tuesday, and it looks good. They did not use it much, and it looks like it could be powered up and run with no problems?? I would

think it could be moved out with two lift, one on each end, may want to try and find out who put it in there, but does not look like a big deal either way.

    Is it from China

Souds like you took it off of a passing freighter. I know what this sold for in 2004 and I am trying to set a value on it. it is much more than 4K Euro I can tell you that (nuts)
