We just got it tuesday, still waiting for electric and air before we schedual the install.

That's a sweet heart. And no, the set up time won't be great. That's the beauty of the Okumas, easy to program, fast to set up and nearly bullet proof if it's properly maintained.

It's got a 12 station turret with every station capable of live tooling. I hope it won't be too hard to set up. I've never ran an okuma lathe, only a mill, but once I figured it out it wasn't bad to set up. I think with the sub the initial setup would be longer, but then I'm doing two steps in one setup. So if you count setup two for the second op on a lathe with no sub it should be about the same. I hope

I've got live tools from eppinger. They are preci-flex as well as ER32. I didn't really see anything that preci-flex could do that I can't do with the collets except for the shell mill adapter. Anyone using preci-flex? If so how do you like it? Is there any advantage over a collet that I'm missing?

Wow, you're the last guy that I'd want helping me program live tools on an Okuma turning center.

Seriously, if you don't know Okuma's turning centers, or you're a "Fanuc" guy, you're in for an owie on the Okuma lathes with live tools...

Edster, Have you done any sub spindle work yet? We got up and running today and I am extremely disappointed with the torque of the sub. We were unable to take .100 on the side in 5 in dia. 4140 annealed. (550 sfpm .010 per rev. using a WNMG 432 GN IC 9025)

very dangerous machine you must send that to me right away and dont forget them very very dangerous tool holders get them to me right away and ps dont forget the manuals i can dispose of the whole mess of dangerous stuff. Just trying to protect you send me the tracking # as soon as possible

Yeah, I got the first part running with live tools and I'm using the sub to pull the bar then cutoff and finish the back half. For now I'm not having any problem with the sub. You gotta remember that the sub is a sub and not the main spindle. It's only got 70 ftlbs of torque, the main's got 300+ ftlbs. It's kinda funny thou my SL-10 with the 6" chuck has only 75 ftlbs The clearances are kinda tight, and I wish the machine had another 2 inches of x+ but what do I know this is my first sub spindle live tool machine. The machine is very fast and so far I don't have any complaints. I'll try to get a video of her runnin as soon as I figure out the video camera I won at IMTS

She's runnin at 80% rapid and turret index speed. I figured I'd take it easy on her for the first 1000 miles or so.

Awesome machine back in the nineties I worked for Goodrich Corp as a industrial maintenance mechanic and they had a couple that a 300lb man could get inside of but very seldom had to work on them other than PM's excellent machine. Cliff
