Hoped for simple chart on how large weld bevel should be. Didn't happen.
I'm designing a fabricated steel machine base which will be filled with Epoxy/Granite. (end customer buys by the pound).
Top plate is 1 3/4" thick HRMS in flat horizontal position. Side plate is a vertical 1" thick HRMS. The weld is to 100% penetration from one side.
My inclination is a 3/4" 45 deg. in the 1 3/4" top plate. ????
Also, do I require a "throat" or whatever it's called between the top of the vertical plate and the underside of the top plate? If so, how wide should it be?
I have a book titled "The Procedure Handbook of Arc Welding". This book is very informative on fillet welding but doesn't have much on groove welding in this type of position.
The reason for this weld is because it's not very accessible from the inside so fillet welding from both sides isn't practical.
