    NMI error on Signmate 2000

I am trying to setup the communications between the programming computer and an ESAB Signmate 2000 with Autopath 750.

When starting the Signmate we get only a cursor in the upper left hand corner of the Autopath instead of the normal COMMAND screen. If we use the reset button we get the following error "NMI FAULT ISSUED" followed by either a zero or a 2. The machine is then locked up and all we can do is shut if off.

Any ideas what might be causing these errors?

    NMI Fults

    Mark.

NMI Faults can be caused by 2 things ONLY. NMI is a generic fault that actually crashes the processor. NMI stands for Non-Maskable Interrupt. Something that the processor can't hide.

Depending on the number you get NMI 1 or NMI 2 is a status telling you of a High or Low Voltage Fault on the 5Volt Line. When you open and look inside the electronics enclosure you will see the MotherBoard Mounted to the bottom of the Panel. You 'll have several ribbon cables and one with a white connector. This has a couple Red an Orange Yellow and Green. This is the Power connector coming from the Power Supply (+5Vdc, +12vDC, -12Vdc). The power supply was usually mounted on the side of the panel behind a cover. Remove the cover and inspect the power supply. You will See a Potentiometer on the PS that says +5Vadj. While Measuring the voltage going into the motherboard start adjusting that Pot. at the same time have someone keep hitting the RESET Pushbutton. Once you get the voltage within the acceptable operating range it will reset and power up trust me. You may have to find the upper and lower fault limits and set it to the middle. (+4.85V and below it usually faults.---+5.85V or over it faults)

Good Luck and Let me know...
