Starting at MINUS Z depth problem

    Hey Guys,

I have a problem I need some help with, I'm milling a mold and the last step for this half is to drill index pin holes.

This is the male half of the mold and the index pin holes need to be drilled starting at -.08694" and going .50" deep.

Here's the problem... Cut2D is not allowing me to do a (MINUS) starting depth. Am I missing something or is this not a feature ?

Isn't the - implied? Just put .08694 and it should start at -.08694. I think.

That's what I thought and it is correct. I just got it done but the only way I could get it to work is to forget about peck drilling. With peck enabled it was doing all kinds of strange things in the air, including starting .08694 above zero.

I just deselected peck drilling and reduced the plunge rate of the end mill and didn't change anything else and it worked perfectly. So I don't know exactly what the heck was the problem with peck enabled but I'm not going to worry about it now though.

    Thanks Gerry,

    Steve

I checked in V-Carve before I posted, but didn't check the Peck box. I'll try again later if i get a chance and see what happens.

OK, thanks. BTW, I meant to say 0.8694.

Apparently V-Carve Pro won't let you set a - start depth either (When Peck drilling). But mine did start in the correct place. It uses the start depth (positive, though, even if you have a - sign) to start the peck drilling. For example, I used a start depth of .25, and a peck depth of .125, and the first peck goes to .125, the second to 0.0, and so on.
