How do I learn about Macro programming?

I have only been doing cnc work for a year and a half or so. Is there a good source for learning Macro programming? I don't have a programming background or even a specific job in mind just want to learn another aspect of this field.

There was a zipped file circulating around that contained some PDF and PPT files that had some lessons. If someone doesn't chime in with what you need to know send me a PM with your email address and I will dig it up and email it to you.

During long cycle times, crack open the manual and do some reading...

Start simple in the new programs you write ie.

    #100=2000(RPM)
    #101=50.(FEED)

    T1 M06
    G43 H01 Z.1
    S#100 F#200 M03

Once you get more confidant, start adding more to your programs. learn one macro command and implement it in each new program.

Practice and thinking outside the box will make you a better programmer and a better machinist.

From my limited experience with them they are one of those "all in" kind of things. It's hard to be a little proficient. Peter Smid has a book titled "Fanuc CNC Custom Macros" that is very complete and intimidating. Macros are very similar to what writing computer code was like years ago. It's kind of like html and that's not a walk in the park either.

    Good luck
