    Material need for insert type tool holders

    hi;

    I need help for making indexable carbide inserts type endmills body, what type of material is best for making such tools.
    if some one has an idea about that kindly share with me.

    i guess you sould you high carbon content steel alloys, or 4140 mr. Arif

    use?

    If it's something to just get you out of trouble, most any steel will work. If you are looking for longer life then 4140 or 8620 or similar would give you good results. A bit more pricey but if you had some 17-4, 13-8, 455 or 465 stainless steel drops laying around they would work as well.

    4140 pre-hard
    You can always spot the pioneers -- They're the ones with the arrows in their backs.

    They are right. I just made lathe tool holders from KennaMetal prints (out of catalog stuff), 4140 prehardened to 30 rockwell C.
