I am thinking about how to wire my stepper motors on a cnc router build.

I was wondering if it is a good idea to have cabling that disconnects at the driver box and the at the stepper motors (or at a panel on the cnc machine), kind of like how a guitar cable plugs into the guitar and an amplifier.

Should I wire up connectors for all the motors on a panel that is on a corner of the machine? That way all of my cables to the driver box can be the same length and tied together.

I think I will be using these cables and these 5 pin connectors:

It is a lot of extra cable for my needs, but the price per foot seems right and I will have extra for the next build.

Any thoughts on how people have kept their cnc cabling tidy would be appreciated.

Generally quick disconnect at the panel is in order for ease in machine shipping or moving, another option is 1/2" conduit flex strain relief, these can be obtained to suit all diameters of cable.
They require a standard 1/2" conduit hole in the panel and once the cable is inserted, they are tightened to form a sealed entry in and secures the cable.
On the servo/stepper end, again, it is usually is done to allow quick change out of a replacement motor.
Also with less connectors, the less likely hood of connection/continuity woes.
