    BDMS (BMS) equivalent in US?

Bright Drawn Mild Steel (BDMS) or more normally BMS is used extensively in the UK, and some other former affiliated countries.

Bright steel bars are carbon steel which has had the surface condition improved over the hot rolled finish supplied by the steel mill. Advantages achieved include improved machinability, enhancement of physical and mechanical properties and improved dimensional tolerances and straightness.

It is a staple of the model engineering community in many countries but does not appear to be available through the suppliers who deal with small shops in the US. Is there in fact an equivalent or can anyone suggest an alternative.

    Thanks,

    BernardR

Drill rod, comes in many different alloys S7, A2, O1 etc. but if you get it from the cheaper suppliers you may not know what it is. It is centerless ground but you have to watch it I have seen some that was egg shaped by over 0.0005".

    .
I Googled it to find the specs; the equivalent in North America is C1018, cold finished (cold rolled) bar.

It is just low carbon steel, not an alloy steel, drill rod is very different.

Tolerances on cold finished bar are something like +0.0005" -0.001" or something like that.
An open mind is a virtue...so long as all the common sense has not leaked out.
